Prosper TX

Prosper Texas is the fastest growing community in the state. Now that the Dallas North Toll Road has been extended all the way to #380 in Prosper, the commute times to Frisco have been reduced to 10 minutes and only 15 minutes to Plano. The Dallas commute has been reduced by at least 15 minutes to an hour during peak traffic times and 45 minutes for off peak hours. Over 4.5 million square feet of retail space is planned for Prosper and its current population of 7000+ is expected to be 140,000 by 2020.

Wide open spaces and gently rolling hills would be the best way to describe Prosper. This charming community located just minutes from the modern conveniences of Frisco, Texas, offers its residents a great sense of rural living. Born as a stop on the railroad line between Dallas and Sherman in 1914, Prosper was named so because of its prosperous crops and rich soil. Current residents would agree that the town is still prosperous today because many of them say Prosper, Texas is the best place they’ve ever lived.

The Prosper Independent School System’s motto is “In Pursuit of Excellence… Children First.”

The good news is that Prosper is dedicated to having superior schools that not only teach writing, reading and arithmetic but also ethics, morals and social skills that youngsters will need out in the real world. Dr. Drew Watkins, PISD superintendent is a dynamic educator with extraordinarily high standards. He makes it a point to know every student in the school system but admits that 3000 students are getting to be a real challenge. The PISD works closely with the parents and insists on some degree of participation for all parents. Toward this end, Dr. Watkins personally produces a weekly newsletter to all parents letting them know significant events and activities.

Presently, Prosper has a $96 million brand new high school under construction scheduled to open in the fall of 2009. Last year the new Rogers Middle School opened and in 2006 the Steve R. Folsom Elementary school opened. The PISD has two other elementary schools. Prosper now has 7200 residents and a student population of over 3000. The district not only serves Prosper itself but also significant peripheral areas in Denton County, Celina, Frisco and McKinney.

Through development and strategic planning, the town council is in the process of attracting more retail establishments. Although the population of Prosper is only 6300, the last few years have brought a surge in new home builds. Most of the homes are built on large lots and/or in golf course communities. These luxurious homes range in price from the upper $200,000’s to over 1 million dollars. Prosper boasts the 13th top rated golf course in the Texas… the exquisite Gentle Creek Golf Club. The public schools in Prosper are tops. Prosper is represented by most denominations of churches serving this fast growing area.

Texas has no state income tax. The home property tax in Prosper is $2.54 per thousand ( Collin County Tax Rolls)

“Steve Wolfard and I tried to provide a ‘clean’ look by incorporating an expansive fairway cut through the landing areas and around all the greens. The targets are then framed by large flashing sand bunkers and shadowy grass lows. We wanted to allow for ‘golf on the ground’ and to encourage the golfer to make the choices on how they want to play the golf course. it is a beautiful golf course that is impeccably maintained, challenging and fun to play”
